Kinesiology tape was invented by Japanese chiropractor, Kenzo Kase, in the 1970s. Kinesiology taping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It also provides extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.
Kinesiology tape decompresses swelling and inflammation under the skin. This allows byproducts of the inflammation process to be removed by the body more quickly. The tape also runs interference on pain pathways which send signals of pain back to the brain. What this means is it changes how your body interprets pain, minimizing the painful signals going back to the brain from the area of injury. Kinesiology tape can also minimize muscle fatigue.
